What Does Bathroom Plumbing Installation Cover?
Bathroom plumbing covers the supply and waste pipework for every fixture in your bathroom: bath, shower, basin, toilet, bidet, and towel rail. It also includes hot and cold supply connections, waste and soil pipe routing, valve installation, and integration with your existing water system.
Getting bathroom plumbing right requires more than connecting pipes. Water pressure, flow rates, drainage falls, ventilation, and access for future maintenance all need to be considered during the design phase. Poor plumbing causes low shower pressure, slow-draining baths, gurgling wastes, and leaks that damage the room below.
At Conroy Plumbing & Heating, we work with you — or your bathroom fitter — to plan the plumbing layout before any tiles go on the wall. This means pipe runs are routed correctly, connections are accessible, and everything works as intended from day one.
Whether you are renovating a family bathroom, adding an en-suite, or upgrading fixtures in an existing space, we handle the plumbing professionally and coordinate with other trades as needed.
Why Poor Bathroom Plumbing Causes Ongoing Problems
Bathrooms are the most moisture-intensive room in your home. Plumbing connections behind tiles, under baths, and inside walls are virtually impossible to access once the bathroom is finished. If any connection is not completely watertight, you will only discover the problem when water damage appears on the ceiling below — by which time significant damage has already occurred.
- A slow leak behind tiles can saturate the wall structure for months before becoming visible
- Incorrect waste pipe falls cause standing water, bad odours, and bacterial growth
- Undersized supply pipes create poor shower pressure that no amount of adjustment can fix
- Missing or incorrectly installed trap seals allow sewer gases into the bathroom
- Poorly supported pipework vibrates and knocks when taps are turned on and off
- Incorrect connections between hot and cold supplies can cause dangerous temperature fluctuations in showers
Our Bathroom Plumbing Process
Design & Planning
We review the bathroom layout, assess existing pipework, and plan supply and waste routes. We identify potential issues — such as insufficient fall on waste pipes or low water pressure — before work begins.
First Fix Plumbing
We install supply pipes, waste pipes, and soil connections before walls are closed up. Pipes are clipped, insulated where needed, and pressure-tested before tiling begins.
Second Fix Installation
Once tiling and decoration are complete, we connect all fixtures: taps, shower valves, basins, toilets, baths, and towel rails. Every connection is tested for leaks.
Testing & Commissioning
We run every tap, flush every toilet, and test every drain. We check water pressure at each outlet, verify waste drainage speed, and confirm there are no leaks anywhere in the system.
Handover & Clean-Up
We clean up, remove packaging and waste, and walk you through the installation. All connections are accessible for future maintenance without removing tiles.
Why Choose Conroy for Bathroom Plumbing
Plan Before You Tile
We plan pipework routes before walls are closed up, preventing the costly rework that comes from discovering problems after tiling.
Pressure-Tested Connections
Every supply connection is pressure-tested before it goes behind a wall. If there is a weak joint, we find it before it causes damage.
Correct Waste Falls
We calculate and install waste pipes at the correct gradient to ensure fast, reliable drainage without gurgling or standing water.
Coordinate with Other Trades
We work alongside your tiler, electrician, and bathroom fitter to keep the project on schedule and avoid trade conflicts.
All Fixtures Fitted
Baths, showers, basins, toilets, bidets, towel rails — we install and connect everything. One plumber for the whole job.
Guaranteed Watertight
All connections are guaranteed. If anything leaks within the guarantee period, we return and fix it at no cost.
Bathroom Plumbing: Technical Guide
Supply Pipe Sizing
Bathroom supply pipes need to be correctly sized for the fixtures they serve. A standard basin requires 15mm pipe. A bath or shower needs 22mm supply for adequate flow. If multiple fixtures run simultaneously (e.g. shower and basin), the main supply branch must be sized to maintain pressure. We calculate flow requirements based on your fixtures and existing water pressure.
Waste Pipe Routing and Falls
Waste pipes must fall at a minimum gradient of 18-20mm per metre to drain reliably. Insufficient fall causes standing water and odours. Excessive fall causes water to outrun solids, leading to blockages. We route waste pipes to maintain correct falls while minimising visual impact and boxing requirements.
Shower Valve Types
Thermostatic mixer showers maintain a constant temperature regardless of other water usage in the house — essential for safety. Manual mixer valves are cheaper but can scald if someone flushes a toilet while you are showering. We recommend and install thermostatic valves as standard for family bathrooms. For high-pressure systems, we can also install rainfall heads and multi-jet systems.
Concealed vs Exposed Pipework
Concealed pipework gives a cleaner finish but must be installed before tiling. It requires careful planning for future access and maintenance. Exposed pipework is easier to install and maintain but has a different aesthetic. We discuss the options and implications during the planning phase so you make an informed choice.
En-Suite and Additional Bathrooms
Adding a bathroom where none existed before involves extending supply pipes and — critically — connecting to the soil stack for toilet waste. If the soil stack is remote from the new bathroom location, we may recommend a macerator system or saniflo unit as an alternative. We assess the options and explain the pros and cons of each approach.
